Acinetobacter superinfection in elderly COVID-19 patients with pneumothorax - a report of two cases

Introduction. Coronavirus disease 2019 is an infectious that primarily affects the lungs. Since pandemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 continues and a large number cases are registered worldwide, knowledge about virus virus-related complications growing as well. Pleural complications, pneumothorax, empyema important issues affecting better patient survival. Bacterial superinfections may cause 2019. Knowledge incidence superinfections, microbiological causes, treatment, outcomes incomplete. Case Report. We present two oxygen-dependent patients with who developed pneumothorax during hospitalization, three weeks after onset symptoms. Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter spp. was isolated from thoracic drain. Conclusion. Pneumothorax occur at any stage not always associated severity viral infection. Empyema due to pneumonia rare occurs superinfection pleural effusion. Excessive use antibiotics in treatment hospitalized increase risk nosocomial infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria.
